The new fall television season has begun and, along with newbies like Supergirl, Life in Pieces and Angel from Hell – and 2nd season returning shows Jane the Virgin, Madam Secretary and Scorpion – we have the 4th season of The Mindy Project and Orange is the New Black to look forward to.
Starting her amazing 13th season is theStitch favorite, the Ellen Degeneres Show. Ellen wasted no time in kicking her show off with a bang by featuring three women who are changing the world: Hillary Clinton, Caitlyn Jenner and Nobel Prize laureate Malala Yousafza.
Returning with Ellen is her end-of-show tagline, “Be Kind To One Another.” Ellen could just as easily have said, “Be Kind to Each Other.” But she didn’t. I like to think that she said it the way she did so that we would also be kind to ourselves.
If we take the word ANOTHER and break it down to AND-OTHER, then the tagline would read: “Be Kind to One and Other.” Here’s the thing. We are the ONE. All those around us are the OTHER. What would the world look like if we were kind to ourselves as well as others?
What if each one of us truly embraced our own beauty and let it shine for all the world to see? We’d feel so good about ourselves that we’d have no choice but to share that kindness with everyone we meet.
Have you ever thought about the anonymous people who leave hateful, venomous comments on online sites? It’s a good bet that they were not shown a lot of compassion in life. What happened to turn them into bullies and spiteful human beings? I don’t know, but what if they started from within and began to treat themselves with kindness? It might take some time, but soon they might start embracing their own beauty and sharing that love online – and more importantly – in their own lives! What a wonderful world it would be.
This Sunday, be kind to yourself and be kind to all the OTHERS that you meet (in person and online). In the best possible world, beauty, love and compassion would radiate out of each ONE of us and make the world a better place.
